I am neither a programmer or developer. I am not sure if these are too easy
/ challenging tasks for students (with Python). I am even not sure even if
you can do these with Python. But, here are few of my suggestions:
(You may even think like some solutions I am searching for too.... LOL)

1. Implant a set of Meta Data (variable) to a set of documents
(I mean File A1 to have Meta Data B, C, D, "A1" ; File A2 to have Meta Data
B, C+2, D*5, "A2", etc)

2. Rename a set of documents based on Meta Data

3. Extract Data from Seperate Graphs and save them as one Big File!!

4. Create a Chess / Sudoku puzzle game

5. Check for Duplicates
