Amber,

    Due to a Kernel bug ksoftirqd takes up 100% cpu
and server becomes inaccessible. Yes, kernel upgrade
will fix this. You can use kernel rpm to upgrade. May
have to revert back to old one if box doesn't come
back up with new kernel.
