someone please correct me if am way off the mark...

[i think you might have misquoted 3.5 gb (there's 4.5 gb of free
space...) but then you might want to leave some free space there... ok
no probs..]

i doubt that you could take that try (that you talk about) especially
with critical data.

1. the only solution to resizing i heard was 'parted', but that works
only on ext2/fatxx but not on ext3 (i mean you could try tune2fs again
but i'd rather bet on the sun falling... ) and moreover you need to have
concurrent space for that kind of extensions. you could do "moving" the
whole partitions and resizing them and copying dumpb to dumpa and then
move them back, but then again, firstly, you need spare space on the
"same" drive and of course its better to bet on the sun falling...!

2. the other solution is ofcourse lvm or raid0 but then of course you
need to start from scratch, your data is to be at least temporarily to
be transferred out... (right? anyone?)

note: i dont think the sector sizes being different matter, because they
cant merge anyways, (because of the fact that they are different
filesystems). the physical characteristics of discs dont matter
anyways...

as always, any point above could be completely wrong, and therefore will
gladly want to know the mistakes then. if i respond as if i speak to
someone in class 3rd, sorry again, just being courteous! and if someone
feels i just spoke french, probably that friend at Alliance-Francaise..
is helping it seems!! ;)
