Since you yourself are pretty unsure about Unix/Linux and what you want to do with it( you mentioned certificates), I would suggest you pick up a Linux book from any book store ( a casual browsing should tell you whether the book suits your requirement). Such books normally come with some Linux distributions on CD(s) and will be available under Rs. 500/-.
