What do you mean "by the original one"? Nevertheless, what did you >use to download the ISO?

Sorry for using the wrong word. I meant the MD5 signatures given at the ftp site for validating the ISO images after they are downloaded.
I used downloader for X v2.4.1.

Since writing to the CDs involves putting in extra CD data (lead in,
lead out, etc.)..md5s of CD images once written will never match the
original if you use something like "md5sum /dev/cdrom" to generate >your MD5s.

no i am not using such a command. Am checking the MD5s of individual files. The files show the same MD5 sums given in the verification file.

Which ISO image did you download by any chance?

I had downloaded FreeBSD 5.1 Disc 1. Disc 2 has a correct MD5 signature.

If anybody has the FreeBSD release i386 Disc 1, could you PLEASE create a file containing the MD5 checksums of all the files in "/mnt/cdrom" and mail it to me so that I can verify the files. This will save me the trouble of downloading the image again (perhaps I am not goin to do that!).

Affly,
Bhaskar

Bittorrent seems to be the only one I can blindly trust for
downloading perfectly .. last week I finished downloading the first three CDs
of Redhat Linux 9.0 ...and for once I have ISOs with md5s that match the
official checksums.

Thankgoodness RHL8 onwards have their own CD checking routine during the
installation process ...

Which ISO image did you download by any chance? The only way to verify your
data after writing is that the individual binaries match the binaries in the
ISO that you or anybody else have (once you have mounted the ISO on your
filesystem)..Contact somebody else who has the same image and check with
them.
