I do'nt actually get the point. RedHat has clearly stated the development of free version would continue. Fedora is the project name. Take a look at http://fedora.redhat.com. This actually means that U and I can contribute and have a distro which is "better" than what was produced by redhat.
The projects are on to intergrate apt into the RHL distro making it. Soon only difference between debian and RHL would be that they use different packaging systems. Anaconda(RedHat installer) has been ported for debian. apt(Debian package app) has started working on RHL. This year would be the killer season for linux.
