have been having some similar problems myself. I stopped all the NFS
related services (nfs + portmap, etc. ) and then started portmap before
starting NFS. It seems to work most of the time, and the times it
didn't, i restarted the boxes (both client and server) and then mounted
the NFS share again (not using /etc/fstab). I encountered this when i
was actually "playing" around with NFS and creating and removing shares
indiscriminately, stopping and starting services erratically, etc.
Couldn't find the real reason, i guess NFS is really sensitive to
restarts and the "order" of restarts. Would be interested in case you
can point out something. :)
