My advice is - why don't you just grab a Knoppix CD. Run it off the CD to see that every thing is fine and looks as you would have liked. Use the Knoppix-installer script to install it on your harddisk. Amend the "/etc/apt/apt.conf" and "/etc/apt/sources.list" to your liking and do, as root, an "apt-get update" and if you like an "apt-get upgrade". Forget that it is Knoppix that you installed. It is a Debian system like any other and in the process, it will save you much time and hassles, unless of course, you want to go through installing the complete Debian by hand. -- narsingh ________________________________________________________________________ Yahoo!
