Numbers to be patentable
http://newsvac.newsforge.com/article.pl?sid=03/11/25/2113245

In a move that has surprised naive(?) observers, the US Patent
Office
has announced that from now on it will consider serious applications
to
patent specific integer numbers. "It was the logical next step,"
grey-haired and twinkling Patent Laureate Mr J Dall Swanhuffer
twinkled
to a shocked press conference today. "Remember human genes. Certain
doubting Duanes used to argue that, just because nobody invented
them,
they couldnt be patented. 'What will the patent-holder do if I
happen
to have a patented gene in my body? Shoot me?' they used to jeer.
Well,
those wiseacres were proved wrong then, and theyre going to be
proved
    wrong again.

har! har! i love this. how far can you take the bankruptcy of the human
soul. i hope you patent your cellphone numbers before you end up paying
a license for it. and better do the same for your birthday and other
anniversaries. your numberplates, even your roll numbers in school and
colleges. what happens if i use a PIN on my cell or ATM card, and though
its a secret, turns out it is a patented number? do i pay for its use?
what about my lucky number? will it be lucky for me if it's use as a
lucky number is patented? does that make it unlucky for me? will india
patent the zero, or does that belong to the public domain already?
