judge throws out demand by RIAA for identities of music downloaders. interesting read. turns out DMCA predates P2P. but its a temporary victory i think. i love a separate comment i read somewhere today, that says basically everyone under 35 and digitally enabled today is a felon if you follow the letter and word of RIAA. in a very interesting development, adobe has launched http://www.digitalmediastore.adobe.com which sells and distributes eBooks, through a tie-up with thousands of publishers, and lakhs of books, newspapers, magazines, are thus made available, with comprehensive DRM (digital rights management) in place.... eagerly went to see if they allow free (muft) or even mukt ebooks to be uploaded. nope, minimum price $1 for something on that site, less than that not allowed. could not find any info if they insist you upload a pdf if only made by adobe software. i really doubt that since their focus seems to be on accepting the works of publishers.... they also support M$ reader format, and a palm format. so i assume pdfs made out of TeX or openoffice under gnulinux, or even scribus, would be welcome, so long as you sell for $1 or above. is it only me, or do you guys also feel the computing industry seems to be shifting its paradigm from first hardware, then software, to now just getting a pie into actual content: from iTunes, this digital store, hotmail, google, to whatever, this is where real money is being made in IT today. and as the examples show, it gets even better, as it is always other people's content. :- LL _______________________________________________ ilugd mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd
