I downloaded the sysklogd SRPM from Red Hat's site and
rpm -iv -v sysklogd-1.4.1-12.src.rpm

This created a tar.gz file in /usr/src/redhat/SOURCES/

now I need to edit a syslogd.c file and then create an rpm that I will install, do I
need to run make ,make install in the extracted directory?
or Do I create a tarball (not a gz file) and then make an rpm file out of it?

how do I go about this. downloading from source is not an option , as I know how to do
it, ;) I know that its possible to create RPMS from tar balls, so was trying this
option

Mani
