dear mr. alok sinha i am really happy about open source people! they respond so soon an so willingly. (i am a newbie) but there are some issues here. in my experience with RH9 it detected the precence or absence of modems while booting. in fedora it does not seem to matter to the core whether the hardware is plugged in or not. the result is that even if switched off; kudzu is not bothered. (in RH9 if my modem was switched off kudzu would warn me about it on reboot) so how come the kudzu of fedora does not behave similarly? anyway should not the open source people make some effort in the direction of trying to be freindly to the users? anyway i could get the modem to dial for my ISP by running kppp (in the 'run' command box) and then clicking 'setup' and telling it to seek modem at /dev/ttyS0. but intutively should it it not do this by itself? (please do not feel that i am questioning the basics) in RH9 it did!! how come it did not in fedora? with regards and much obligations i remain sincerely yours [EMAIL PROTECTED] --- Alok Sinha <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Or try > wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf > > This should recognise the modem and make changes as > well. > > External modems (Std AT compatible) should not be a > problem for any OS, > since they work without the need of the driver. > > You can test the modem first, by using a software > called minicom and > ensuring that the modem responds to AT as OK. > > regards, > alok sinha > > Sudev Barar wrote: > > >On Sat, 2004-01-24 at 10:16, ananda rao wrote: > > > > > >>previously i had RH9 which was able to recognize > my > >>external analog modem. > >>but Fedora does not recognize it. > >> > >> > >Which program you are using to "start" modem? > >wvdial should be the easiest option.
