Which version of Squid are you running? Run 'rpm -q squid' at a shell prompt to get the version of Squid that is installed Outlook Express uses some HTTP/1.1 calls, which are not supported in older versions of Squid. However, they will work correctly in Squid 2.4+ I'm running Squid 2.5 on my Linux gateway as a transparent proxy, and OE users have never had a problem retrieving their e-mail.
