Hi!

I have been searching for this all morning, but can anybody here point me to the official algorithm of the MD5 based crypt(3) function used in the new fangled shadow files?

This is NOT the same algorthm as MD5 it seems - a number of iterations of MD5 are done in this algorthm, as can be found out from a look at the Crypt-PasswdMD5 CPAN module (http://search.cpan.org/src/LUISMUNOZ/Crypt-PasswdMD5-1.2/PasswdMD5.pm).

I am also looking for a pure python module which can authenticate using these shadow files.

Thanks,
  Sandip
