hi, major number stands for the class of devices and the minor number standss for the instance of that particular class for ex: block devices have a particular major number now harddisk is a block device so if block device have major number 3 and u have got two harddisk then they would belong to major number 3 and have minor numbers are 0 and 1 . i hope u get it.
