hi,
major number stands for the class of devices and the minor number standss
for the instance of that particular class
for ex: block devices have a particular major number
now harddisk is a block device
so if block device have major number 3 and u have got two harddisk then they
would belong to major number 3 and have minor numbers are 0 and 1 .

major and minor numbers for each device....

can anyone tell me what is the significance of these
two numbers and if they are not what difference can it
make....

why only one out of them is not sufficient?
