Are you sure you gave it only at linux asia ?

You are missing the point. If you are planning an email marketing blitz
you do not go about searching for individual emails. You will buy them
from email harvesters. I get offers like "millions of emails in a single
a spreadsheet for Rs.1600 only" almost regularly. (Will post one if I
get it today).
A technique common in Delhi is to collect the emails of the college
going people. If you attend a college fest, you will find stalls put up
by NIIT, Aptech, <other computer institutes> giving out flyers and
asking students for their emails and address. The poor students are then
flooded with telephone calls and emails (and of course more flyers).
I found your email ID listed on 400+ linux related pages using various
searches on google.
I use this email id (i.e. the hotpop one) for mailing lists only. Hence
a bit of spam on this ID is expected. However, the amkette spam came to
me on my official email ID and that email ID was the one I had given out
at LinuxAsia.
