The problem you are mentioning has nothing to do with apt-get. As you are using a RH distribution, it's the dependency problem of rpm. No matter what other ways you try, you'll get same dependency errors. For eg: Even if you download the qt rpms and try hitting rpm -Uvh qt*.rpm, they too will complain the same "dep-hell madness" problem. The package created by who ever has dependency for some other libraries which aren't updated on your system. Along with qt, those libraries also need be updated. That is what rpm (apt-get, in your terms) is crying about. And yes, don't just blame Debian.
