Hi ppl, gnome.org is out with GNOME 2.6, their latest release. It was released 3 days back after a short delay due to server compromise. For whats new in this release, check this link: http://www.gnome.org/start/2.6/notes/rnwhatsnew.html
Compiling the sources took me around 3 hrs (1.6 gig athlon + 512 ddr). You need to download around 100 MB of sources + a few externel dependencies. Check this link : http://www.gnome.org/start/2.6/notes/rninstallation.html Looks really sexy & cool. Check it out for yourself! Here's a screenshot from my gentoo system running gnome 2.6.0 on kernel 2.6.5-rc3. http://www.geocities.com/bhaskie99/screenshots/gnome-2.6-screenshot.jpg gentoo users can get gnome 2.6 from portage.(snapshot on 2nd april). debian users can get it from experimental. Hasnt entered unstable yet as the developers are working on the sarge release. Am still waiting for debs. Remember, this is a *stable* release. Hasnt broken my system as yet!
