Hi everyone, I believe I have found a (possible) solution w.r.t. creating the central CD vendor for Linux distros.
I had a talk with one of the directors of a firm called Kits 'n' Spares, which is located at Nehru Place. The fiirm belongs to the EFY group (publishers of LINUX For You). The firm's director--Mrs Khanna, has agreed to: 1. Buy a CD duplicator 2. Maintain stocks of CD distros (Linux/OSS) 3. Send the distros by courier at an extra payment of Rs 20 (for Delhi+NCR only--includes cost of packaging + freight) 4. Allow payments to be made via Online transactions (via credit card) for yet another extra payment of Rs 5 5. Offer a selling price of 3 CDs at the price of Rs 100 However, the catch is that a single CD (or dual) will be sold at Rs 50 per CD. Their logic is that a firm generally has a certain cost of transaction, especially where billing and taxation is involved (and sales of CDs is taxable). In case of a 3 CD transaction, the total margins justify a lower cost, but not in the case of single CD transactions. Hence, a single CD sale would not be possible at Rs 35--the price we had all desired. Kits 'n' Spares was communicated the following support from iLUGD (these points were discussed at the meet): 1. The LUG website would guide its members to Kits 'n' Spares through website and FAQ 2. The LUG would send the latest distros' master copies to Kits 'n' Spares I am sure others (ex: Edwin who was to talk to Purple Computers) are working on getting vendors who will be agreeable to the sale price of Rs 35 for a single CD. I suggest that we wait for some time for their efforts to bear fruit, and then take a decision. Kits 'n' Spares is awlays there as a backup option. If we do not find another vendor, we can use their services. Best Wishes! Rahul Chopra PS: Truthfully, being a member of the 'board' of the EFY Group, I can over-ride the 'price factor' but I hope you will appreciate my view of keeping business interests separate from my personal ones. _______________________________________________ ilugd mailinglist -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd Archives at: http://news.gmane.org/gmane.user-groups.linux.delhi http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/
