Folks,
Please see http://www.pool.ntp.org .
This is a call for people to donate their NTP servers to the pool.ntp.org
zone. The idea is to reduce the use (and abuse) of the public startum 1
servers, by providing a large pool of stratum 2 and stratum 3 servers, which
can be freely used.
This is also a call for people to use the service. To use a NTP server,
please use XX.pool.ntp.org in ntp.conf, where XX would be the 2-letter ISO
country code (IN for India). You may also use
asia.pool.ntp.org
or even just
pool.ntp.org (which will talk to a NTP server at random)
The pool.ntp.org setting ships as a default in debian.
People who are running NTP servers, and are willing to join the pool, and
thus offer this service, please contact me. The bandwidth demand is quite
low.
Currently IN.pool.ntp.org is a single server on the Sify network,
contributed by eSys Distribution.
Thanks
