I had this problem when I had borrowed a hp printer. (Do not have it
now). Strangely, this did not happen in applications under KDE.

Thus, printing  from xpdf was sl  o o o  o w, while printing  the same
file when it was opened in konqueror was fast.

I believe  that there are  more than one  nozzles, and some  command /
parameter has to  be passed to the lpr command to  get all the nozzles
working.
