At the last WSF (World Social Forum) event here in Mumbai, Icecast is what we had used for streaming audio to listeners. With help from APO33 (www.apo33.org) we were able to provide on the fly transtation of various speeches to foreign listeners in their languages... The entire setup worked quite nicely and was also covered in media...
