I also top-post when there's a long wandering thread and my post is of
general relevance, perhaps related to the thread.  Bottom posting
makes sense when the chronological flow of the messages is important,
or when replying to a specific point in the earlier posts.  When the
response is generic and has no relevance to the order of posts,
top-posting a couple of lines is probably the best thing to do.

For example, if someone asked, ``How do I achieve FOO?'', and there
were 10 responses which you believe were misguiding, a top post would
be the best way to (a) point out the solution and (b) indicate that
the other responses were incorrect or of no value.
