Hi,
Now that ILUGD (or more properly, Linux Users' Group) is a registered
society, we need to hold elections to the Governing Body. The
following positions are currently in place:
1. President Raj Mathur
2. Vice President Anand Shankar
3. Treasurer Kishore Bhargava
4. Secretary Vivek Khurana
5. General Secretary T Meyrivan
6. Founder Member Kapil Dua
7. Founder Member Tirveni Yadav
We are planning to hold the first elections on this coming Sunday, 24
April 2005. The location would be Sarai, the time 16:00 (4 pm). We
will need to start the registrations, etc. by 15:00 (3 pm) so please
don't come later than that.
The procedure is as follows:
- - All those who are present at the location at that time would be
invited to join the LUG. To join, you would need to do the following:
. Fill out the application form
. Affix one passport-sized photograph to the form. Please bring the
photo.
. Pay Rs. 25 admissions fees.
. Pay Rs. 100 annual subscription
. Sign the form and hand it in
The set of people who have fulfilled these criteria would constitute
the first General Body of the LUG. This set is the one that will
elect the Governing Body.
- - We will select an Election Officer from among the members who would
ensure that the elections to the Governing Body are carried out
fairly.
- - All the Governing Body Members will hand in their resignations to the
Election Officer.
- - For each post listed above, the Election Officer will invite one or
more nominations and seconding to the post. All those present who are
nominated and seconded will then be the candidates for that post.
The post of ``Founder Member'' shall be converted to ``Governing Body
Member''.
- - The Election Officer will put the names of all the candidates on the
ballot papers.
- - Each member of the General Body will get a ballot and a chance to
vote for the post.
- - The Election Officer will collect the ballots and tabulate the
results. The person who has the highest number of votes shall become
the holder of the post.
- - This process shall be repeated until all the posts have been filled.
What you need to do:
- - Ensure that you are carrying a passport-sized photograph and at
least Rs. 125 in order to be able to formally join the LUG.
- - Figure out who you believe is the right person for each post.
Choose people whose integrity you trust, and who you believe can help
the LUG proceed in the direction in which YOU want the LUG to go.
This is important -- from now on the future of the LUG is in your
hands!
- - Nominate (or second) the right person for each post.
- - Vote.
The tenure of the Governing Body is 1 year from the date of election.
After that (unless there are very special circumstances), we will be
voting in a new Governing Body each year.
The (slightly modified) version of the Memorandum of Association of
the LUG is available in OpenOffice format in the Files area of
http://linux-delhi.org/ . It may take a while for it to get approved
- -- hope Nishikant is listening :)
Look forward to seeing you and setting the LUG formally on its way!
Regards,
- -- Raju
