 well try doing this. 
1) killall sifyd
2) as root type this /etc/init.d/sifybb start
 if following returns without any error then try
connecting to sify.

 If it doesnot work out then get hold of someone who
comes for installing sify connection and then ask him
to connect to the team leader. Tema leaders in
customer support are teh only intelligent beings in
sify with any information on linux. They will
defiantely help.
