The JRE is free as in price. But it's certainly a proprietary software.
It's really sad to see how OOo is becoming more and more Java
dependent. In this way it's becoming a real bloated product and is also
drifting away from being a true Free Software. IMO, the time is ripe to
fork OOo and strip out the bloat/Java from it.
