Hi, I would suggest that you take the painless route to the router and try m0n0wall (www.m0n0.ch/wall). Its written by an Indian guy called Dinesh Nair and is based on the FreeBSD kernel. You could also try shorewall (which gives you a better interface to write iptables rules in) or if you feel more adventurous try smoothwall (express is free i reckon).
