Well, I dont know. The print server I have attaches itself to my samsung laser 
printer, and provides different interfaces to connect to it. Jet direct being 
one of them.

The socket option is for clients.

I have always seen windows sending raw data to cups based printers. I have had 
to configure cups to accept such data for prints from windows to work.

I am guessing that in IPP, you put ppd files for each printer, and windows can 
use that instead.
