in windoze, there are two ways of getting windoze - pirated version on
cds without box and genuine version on cds with box and manual. Linux
is different. Most distributions of linux are free - so there is no
concept of piracy, anyone can copy them and distribute them and they
are still genuine even if there is no label on the cd, no box or no
activation key. That said, there are three ways of getting your copy of
the linux distro you want:

1. From friends or from commerial vendors (try ebay) you can get the cds
for the distro you want. Cost usually < 500 rs depending on the number
of cds. Many on this list would copy and give you for the cost of the
cd and maybe a beer. This is PERFECTLY LEGAL and the linux you get is
genuine.

2. You can buy boxed versions of most distros with the cds and manuals
and some extra goodies. This is the same linux as the previous one, but
due to the cost of the box, manuals and goodies, prices start from
about rs 6000 onwards

3. You can download your distro from the internet. For this you need
good connectivity, lots of bandwidth and some experience. Here again
the linux you get is the same genuine linux.

There are also some companies that distribute commercial linux - but i
have no experience with that
