Unfortunately, there does not seem to be a way in GNOME or KDE to
make all applications use reverse video. The -rv option used to be
pretty standard for X clients, but GNOME/KDE applications do not
seem to support it, nor other useful options like -iconic. So,
you can try to see if the application supports -rv (Emacs, for
instance, does), but there is no guarantee. I think that the
GNOME/KDE way would be to design a theme intended for reverse video.
