Have a look at /etc/resolv.conf file when you are NOT connected to the net, and check if its contents are the same when you are connected. When connected, /etc/resolv.conf should contain the entries for your ISP's DNS servers. If not, tell whatever program you are using to connect to the net to select the DNS servers automatically. -- Mahesh T.
