Redhat have a stronger and better managed security / errata / bugfix release cycle with a lot more testing going into it. ( they break sometimes, but not as often ) - also you are assured of kabi conformance, and a standard locked package-version release chain right through the life of the product ( in case of EL4 - upto 2011 ). So you have a pretty stable product that just runs for a fair few years. There are also a lot more management tools, better vendor support, more documentation and direct project support for Redhat / Redhat based distro. And you have someone to call on the phone, should you need to do that. You are also more likely to find a standard skill set with Redhat implementations around the world. There is that cost issue.... but then there's also CentOS.... And now, having said all that - lots and lots of stable debian installs out there too... > Debian. > > Reason? APT.
