Which distribution? SCIM is not very well-integrated and exhibits
probems on several distributions. Also, it is possible that various
environment variables are not getting set correctly. Try the following
from a terminal:
  export XMODIFIERS="@im=SCIM"      # Should not really be necessary
  export GTK_IM_MODULE=scim
  oowriter
If SCIM is not already running, it should be launched with the proper
trigger (usually, Control + Space). Now you should be able to choose
keyboards, and type as usual.
  I just tried your example on Ubuntu Dapper beta, with OpenOffice
2.0.2
and scim 1.4.4, and it works fine.
