solution -1 ) use exchange's imap - and either proxy that using a
imap-cache or imap-proxy app. but you will loose bits of exchange
groupware functionality.

solution -2 ) checkout what socks/proxy can do for you... and use that
to redirect your traffic ( it will still allow for content / acl
management to a large extent )

solution -3 ) exchange lets you tunnel connections, use that to tunnel
via the proxy gateway machine itself, so Evo will see the wan side (
native side ? ) of the network rather than the lan ( local ?) side.

there must be atleast another 10 ways of working this. i'll leave those
to you to work out, if you even care!

irc works fine behind proxy's - you need to setup something like
ctrlproxy or dircproxy to make it happen, work out your options ( but in
most cases you will need an instance per user on the lan side of things
). While these are built as proxy's - there are a lot of other
advantages to using something like this, it will log backmsgs for one.

if you are so inclined, even irssi can act as a proxy. But i prefer
using ctrlproxy sort of solutions.
