Is lsusb showing the pl2303 device ? Normally when a
pl2303 device is connected it shows the manufacurer id
too.
IMHO looks like usbserial module is not loading. Do
an lsmod and see if usbserial is loaded or not. You
might have to pass the vendor and product id while
loading usbserial. Vendor and product id can be
obtained from /proc .
As the device is pl2303 based, normal mounting of
filesystem will not work. You need to use one of the
sync utilities to talk to the device, this is
something similar to using a palm device.
I would suggest what Gora has said, if you can give
us the device for a day or two we might be able to
extract the data.
