Hi,
I faced a similar problem on my laptop (Toshiba Satellite A100) with a similar
sound card.
Sound was working fine with Edgy Eft (6.10), stopped working when I upgraded to
Fiesty Fawn (7.04).
Tried changing from alsa to oss and back with no effect (some vague clicking
noises!!!).
Upgraded to kernel 2.6.20-16 (did so after being prompted by the update
manager). Voila!! sound works fine.
No idea what happened but happy that skype & last.fm work again!!!
