I wouldn't call it a shift.  Yahoo! uses Oracle quite extensively.
However, Mysql is also used a lot and in many critical and data heavy
operations.

Decision on what to use is probably based, as elsewhere, on various
factors e.g. scalability, administration, etc. I am not knowledgeable
enough on our database side to give exact figures/reasons though. :)
