You could use: QEMU/Puppy (http://www.erikveen.dds.nl/qemupuppy/). Effectively using the usb flashdrive as the OS, and the hard disk as heavy storage. I'm tired of laptops nowadays. I reckon this is a good interim solution until commodity head up displays become ubiquitous.
