Hi all,

  The ILUG-Delhi meeting for the month of October held at
the Jaypee Institute of Information Technology , Noida at 3pm on Sun.,
21/10. Total 18 people

The following items were discussed in Meeting:


1. Meeting started with Gaurav Mishra discussing State of Linux Gaming Market

        o Discussion started with some interesting statistics of
PC/Linux Market and Gaming market. The data clearly shows that there
do exist a small amount of people playing games on Linux Platforms and
a lot of Floss titles are under development or Developed.

        o Tribal trouble case study presents a small view of linux games
sales of a popular game tribal trouble. Along with it list of some
Open source title , Distros and method of getting them is presented.

        o A overview of graphics card supported is presented along with the
community support and issues we are facing.

        o The presentation is concluded with action points and a small
summary of presentation.

        o Some interesting points of Education games is also raised during
the discussion.



2. Lalit Shandilya from switch prompt www.switchprompt.com presented a
very nice idea of having a FLOSS contribution site ICMS (before IDMS)
and shared some ideas with us

        o There are quite a few problems that exists in Indian FLOSS
contribution arena, which he outlined in his presentation. He pointed
that there is not much guidelines available on who is contributing on
Open source, Where are they and how one can be one of them.

        o He quoted lots of Social and Working problems for people not
contributing back to Open source environment.Along with that he
presented some very nice reasons why a person should contribute to
open source.

        o He quoted SF project manager needing a dedicated site where he can
look up for people with specific skills.

        o He presented a small prototype of the site , which will cater the
contributors and skill needed people.

        o The people contributing in OSS through this site could get badges
which will help them in getting recognition

        o Search option in city, companies can help people getting skill
contributors as nearly as possible.

        o A lot of people arises to ask how the people will be evaluated? and
Lait has asked people to give him the suggestions.

        o Advantages and disadvantages of having GNU/Linux in a resume is 
discussed.

        o Some more problems arised and Flames burned of tracking and
tackling with contributors in community.

        o Lalit would like to have more discussion on this on list.

3. After that Varun and Angad from JIIT presented their Linux Club
proceedings over the LUG and discussed few points.

        o They talked about the meetings and discussion they had in last few
months, which had some pretty healthy gatherings in their college.

        o They are having near about 100 students in their Linux Club
including faculties , who regularly join the meetings.

        o Also they have several DSIG`s which include a PHP SIG having nearly
270 members in it.

        o They are having very good number of students involved in various
competitions like IBM TQM, Red hat Lord of code etc.

        o They had a pretty solid infrastructure and pose a solid place to
hold events, seminars and workshops. Eventually we had a discussion
and a proposal from JIIT guys for Freed Satellite presentation
probably a developer track on 3rd day.

        o Possibility is discussed of having a 2 day technical workshop which
will include a project dissection and assignment in 2 days.

        o They had a pretty good internal mailing list, Some one from JIIT
lug is requested to post the details of their list onto ILUGD mailing
list (if it`s open for public).

4. After that we have a small brief discussion for freed.in 2008
including small feedback on freed.in 2007.

        o We had a freed.in feedback session where some interesting points
have been put up by people.

                o* More number of attendes should be there.

                o* Volunteers number should be increased as they can also get a
chance of attending the talks.

                o* A online feedback mechanism by attendes can be set up after 
freed

                o* Less number of tracks

                o* More categorization of talks so that people with respective
interest can easily identify the talks they needed to attend.

                o* Number of Voices raised for Demo section , Fun stuff , 
Something
other than talks and eventually we had a honoury volunteer for this as

                o* We need more volunteers and sub-committee people for 
freed.in Feb

5. Meeting was concluded with everyone appreciating the JIIT Hosts for
their wonderful samosas and tea and a wonderful place to share ideas.
