+1 Ubuntu - for Beginners. Try out the live CD and check if everything works out of the box. If there is something that does not work, check out solutions to the problem on ubuntuforums.org. You can even try out the solution while using in the Live CD (unless of course if you need a reboot). Once you make sure that everything is working go ahead and install Ubuntu and enjoy.
