Sorry for the delay in answering. None of this has worked and I am still clueless why this happens on some hardware and not others. Only interesting observation is that Ubuntu X_64 offers slightly better (larger) fonts than i386 version. > And, BtW what WM are you running ? Xfce, IceWM or .... > IceWM.
