Two basic issues that we need to understand here:

1. ILUGD is not begging for money -- we are providing a service. If you
cost that service at commercial rates, your cost for organising each
workshop would easily end up over a lakh. We are justified in asking
for some percentage of that amount (whether from Sarai or the college
or some other organisation altogether) for our efforts.

If an organisation still doesn't understand service as a business model,
I'm sorry, they just need to open their eyes and look at the world
around them. I'm sure Sarai pays the electrician when he comes and
fixes a short circuit, what so different about paying ILUGD for
organising a workshop/seminar?

2. The money is only going into further promotion of freedom and
openness. If it had being going into the private pockets of the office
bearers (in which case I'd never have let go my position in the
organisation ;) it could (not necessarily would) have been a different
matter. But everyone knows ILUGD's objectives, and our past record
should speak for itself in that field. We volunteer our time, effort
and sometimes even our personal money money to promote FOSS; we do not
ask for anything for ourselves, but we definitely have the right to ask
for support for our effort.

Given these, I see no way an organisation can have either a logistic or
ideological opposition to paying ILUGD for organising workshops.
