Thanks for mail- and please see replies below.
Also, your mail was doubly enlightening because apart from information it
gave insights into a perspective totally different from my own.

buddy, in today's world, mailing list software's job is to satisfy it's
users-- if end-user is unsatisfied- then that use-case must be handled.

These are your views-- not a general case-- because each user wants
something different-- and it will solve problem-- of a Yahoo or GMail user
marking a webmail as "SPAM" and possibly having thousands of Gmail users
automatically have messages moved to spam.

You yourself must be aware of this problem.

But then, if I pay 10 paise for 10kb--- why shouldnt I mark messages as spam
?

Why should not I have a choice of getting certain threads as digests and
some threads as messages ?

Remember; these days end users often use "semi-dumb" or "uncontrollably
intelligent" clients-- like gmail mob; blackberry mail etc... and so, it
makes sense to add more user-control and interface to the server.

I believe in today's world; it is about "what the user wants" NOT what the
list owner wants.
