In OOo it is called Data Pilot.  Google "openoffice calc pivot table" 
gave quite a few tutorial links.

The way I see the migration issue - a power user who knows fair amount 
of both MSO and OOo should be involved in the project.  Both suites 
have a lot of features that most of us lesser mortals don't have the 
time and/or inclination to find out and use.
