Siju George (Hifx IT and Media Services Private Limited, Cochin, http://www.hifx.net) has implemented Samba based PDCs. Their network consists of Microsoft Windows, GNU/linux and BSD boxes. Hifx also sells Samba based Domain controller solutions. Siju would be the best person to guide you on this. I can pass you his contact email address and phone number off list. As far as I know once you configure Samba as a PDC, you don't need any AD server. I am not sure on the encryption part. Integration with OpenLDAP is certainly possible.
