That's assuming everyone on this list wants to "find jobs or contracts". Suppose I don't, does that still justify your sending an invitation to the whole list? I have no issues with linkedin (or any other site) promoting itself to willing individuals or someone using it to send invites to people they know personally who'd be interested; however the practice of spamming arbitrary groups of people with invitations is definitely brain-dead.
