Hi, Found this news on Rediff: http://business.rediff.com/report/2009/oct/26/verify-internet-users-online-says-dot.htm
Although, I could not find anything on DoT's website, here is what mentioned in the news: <quote> Aiming at preventing the misuse of Wi-Fi connectivity by unauthorised users, the department of telecommunications has directed all telecom service providers to implement an online centralised authentication procedure for Internet subscribers. In a notification on its website, DoT said all Internet and broadband subscribers using Wi-fi connectivity would need to get themselves registered with the respective telecom service providers for completing the centralised authentication procedure within 60 days. The department had said insecure Wi-Fi networks were capable of being misused without any trail of a user at a later date. In order to address this issue, it had asked all Internet service providers to follow certain procedures for secure use of Wi-Fi services under delicensed frequency band. </quote> Any idea how could an ISP do a centralised authentication for wi-fi users online when user has put his/her own wireless router behind the CPE? Or, they want to implement it the Reliance Broadband way where one has to login to the web portal before browsing? regards, Nishant -- Peace, Love and Compile the kernel. http://www.nishants.net Try the new Yahoo!
