Read what you wrote again. You have answered yourselves. You are confusing between assignment of copyright, and releasing of modifications under the same terms. When a contributor / modifier releases his modifications, he does not give copyright in his modifications to you. In fact, insisting on such assignment is NOT considered FOSS compatible. -- Mahesh T.
