HP LaserJet 1020 requires a firmware binary to be uploaded to printer
everytime it starts. I hope you're aware of this.

Two years ago, I ran into a similar problem with the HP LaserJet 1020 on
Ubuntu GNU/Linux. I was using HPLIP and IIRC, I'd to download firmware
separately. I'm not sure if OpenSuSe provides it or not. But you can
download/install the firmware by following the instructions on following
website:
