The driver available for ubuntu may not work for Ubuntu 9.10, as mentioned on the page. Also, the driver available for M672 is 2D only. Did you try the default drivers available in ubuntu? Install as follows (backup your xorg.conf before this): sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-sis sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg then restart. If it doesn't work, just do: sudo apt-get purge xserver-xorg-video-sis sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg This will revert everything to the original state. > > > rg.conf (X.Org X Window System server configuration file) > # > # This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, > using > # values from the debconf database. > # > # Edit this file with caution, and see the xorg.conf manual page. > # (Type "man xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.) > # > # This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades > *only* > # if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg > # package. > # > # If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically > updated > # again, run the following command: > # sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg > > Section "InputDevice" > Identifier "Generic Keyboard" > Driver "kbd" > Option "XkbRules" "xorg" > Option "XkbModel" "pc105" > Option "XkbLayout" "es" > EndSection > > Section "InputDevice" > Identifier "Configured Mouse" > Driver "mouse" > Option "CorePointer" > EndSection > > Section "InputDevice" > Identifier "Synaptics Touchpad" > Driver "synaptics" > Option "SendCoreEvents" "true" > Option "Device" "/dev/psaux" > Option "Protocol" "auto-dev" > Option "HorizEdgeScroll" "0" > EndSection > Section "Device" > Identifier "Configured Video Device" > Boardname "VESA driver (generic)" > Busid "PCI:1:0:0" > Driver "sis" > Screen 0 > EndSection > > Section "Monitor" > Identifier "Configured Monitor" > Vendorname "Generic LCD Display" > Modelname "LCD Panel 1280x800" > Horizsync 31.5-50.0 > Vertrefresh 56.0 - 65.0 > modeline "640x...@60" 25.2 640 656 752 800 480 490 492 525 -vsync -hsync > modeline "800x...@56" 36.0 800 824 896 1024 600 601 603 625 +hsync +vsync > modeline "800x...@60" 40.0 800 840 968 1056 600 601 605 628 +hsync +vsync > modeline "1024x...@60" 65.0 1024 1048 1184 1344 768 771 777 806 -vsync > -hsync > modeline "1280x...@60" 83.46 1280 1344 1480 1680 800 801 804 828 -hsync > +vsync > > Gamma 1.0 > EndSection > > Section "Screen" > Identifier "Default Screen" > Monitor "Configured Monitor" > Device "Configured Video Device" > Defaultdepth 24 > SubSection "Display" > Depth 24 > Virtual 1280 800 > Modes "1280x...@60" "1024x...@60" "800x...@60" "800x...@56" "640x...@60" > EndSubSection > EndSection > > Section "ServerLayout" > Identifier "Default Layout" > screen 0 "Default Screen" 0 0 > Inputdevice "Synaptics Touchpad" > EndSection > Section "Module" > Load "glx" > Load "GLcore" > Load "v4l" > EndSection > --snip-- > Section "device" # > Identifier "device1" > Boardname "VESA driver (generic)" > Busid "PCI:1:0:0" > Driver "sis" > Screen 1 > EndSection > It should be : Section "Device". Try removing the Busid line if it still doesn't work. Also, from command line please paste/attach output of following commands: sudo modprobe -r sis sudo modprobe sis dmesg lsmod cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log dmesg & Xorg.0.log will be huge, so better use pastebin or something. It means the EDID info for the display panel (lcd/crt) is not available so Xorg is using generic sync ranges. Shouldn't be a problem is you're using lcd. It'll work fine once Sis drivers can actually read the edid and detect the display type. Sis cards are notorious for their linux support, and the best you can hope for is 2d drivers but no/limited 3d. Latest X doesn't need an xorg.conf as such, however if it is present X will parse it as normal. For some older non pnp cards, manual editing is required. -- > Thanks & Regards > RAKESH > "Allow Your Own Inner Light to Guide You" > _______________________________________________ > Ilugd mailing list > [email protected] > http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd > -- -- Ankit Chaturvedi GPG: 05DE FDC5 468B 7D9F 9F45 72F1 F7B9 9E16 ECA2 CC23 <http://www.google.com/profiles/ankit.chaturvedi> _______________________________________________ Ilugd mailing list [email protected] http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd
